Computer
You shouldn't even show up if you can't get your hands on one or simply don't want to bring one. This is and always has been a Bring Your Own Comp (BYOC) LAN party and that will never change. If you can't get used, you shouldn't be LAN gaming. The computer should be functional, working like a charm, and should be updated with all of the latest drivers and patches that it needs. Don't arrive to the party expecting to get on the internet and download all your updates. For the uninformed, we do not have internet. Second, all prep should be done AT HOME and not at the party. You are coming to game with a bunch of gamers, pig out, and have some genuine fun along the way.
The computer doesn't need to be the fastest thing on earth. If you can run the games YOU want to play, then who's complaining?
Also, make sure that you have antivirus software installed, updated, and you have scanned your comp with it BEFORE you come to the party. We don't like virus-hogs at the XLAN parties. Your system better be clean and don't presume that others won't get infected because they all have AV software running. We have had situations like this happen in the past and we hope it doesn't ever happen again. If you are too cheap to buy AV software, visit out downloads area off the main website and get our free eTrust Antivirus 7.0 Promo edition. It is a free for life program and will get the job done (albeit all legally, too.)
Your computer should also have a functional network card that accepts regular ethernet cable. We've never come across a Coax old-timer yet, but we just want to make sure. It has to support a speed of 100Mbps because this is what our network is rated at. Don't worry about bringing you own network cable like some LAN parties make you do, we provide it for you. Don't say we never provided you with anything!
Lastly, get a general sense of how to get your network card configured for a static IP. We use these at our parties because it is simply easier on our network. If you don't know how to do it, don't fret, someone will help you out. But a little networking knowledge goes a long way when you've only got 10 hours to complete a whole LAN. Time is crucial, folks. The less we have to do before we game, the more time we have to do what we came to do.
Monitor
Nothing fancy, as long as it works. We accept both CRTs and LCDs, but keep it under 23 inches if possible, and NO DUAL MONITOR SETUPS ALLOWED! You know you only do it for bragging rights, so keep it at home. Space is limited on our tables so there should be no reason one person should be able to hog a whole table because he WANTS to, not NEEDS to. The monitor should have working connections and should be able to play your games without that eye strain we hate. We do not provide monitors for anyone, so don't ask. You forget it, you're going back home to get one.
Power Strip
You need one. Simple. Forget one and you could be in trouble. We depend on our guests to help us out with power by bringing at least one power strip per person. It doesn't need to be fancy or a backup UPS or anything; if it has at least 4 power outlets and main power cord, you are fine. If it doesn't work or has been hit by lightning already, throw it out and get a new one for crying out loud. Our power grid is delicate enough that sh*tty power strips taking down whole rows of guests is outrageous. It happens and we can't stop it, but remember, it only steals away from the time you have to game.
Mouse/Keyboard/Mousepad
No matter how many times we remind people, they always seem to forget that you need these three to even think about trying to game. Any mouse will work as long as you like it and can use it. Same goes for the keyboard; please leave the monster AV El Macho keyboards at home because they take up way too much room.
MOUSEPADS ARE NECESARRY! We will not let you use prize table pads for your convenience of forgetting a mousepad at home (you know who you are.) The tables we use at the party are not nice towards optical mice so going barebone without a pad will be hell. Please bring a mousepad, even two if you wish, to help a friend who may forget. We warned you, end of story.
Headphones
Speakers are always a no-no for LAN parties, and we don't end this tradition. You need to have headphones in order to hear what's going on in your game, or you don't get to listen in at all. Speakers not only eat up power, annoy the people in lower floors below our gaming area, and use up lots of room, but they just aren't meant to be used at LAN parties. What would you say if everyone was allowed to have speakers set up to listen to their game? We'd have 30 versions of the same game being played out loud. Get a pair if you don't have any, and we prefer you bring headsets with mics on them. We set up teamspeak servers for certain games so people can communicate to eachother while playing. Shouting across the room is LAN party esque but taboo at our parties.
Games
We don't provide these for you, so get what you need before you come. The current games list is below and will be updated as need be. Your copy of the game should work, play fine, and not have any troubles. Be sure to get the latest patches for your games from our site as we always use the latest versions of the games we play. Don't worry if you forget to update one game or two, as we will have a file server available to get all of the patches and extras from.
Extras
If you have snacks you want to munch on, or a certain drink you know we won't provide and want to sip on, bring it along. If there's anything else you may need, bring it. However, remember that all drugs and alcohol are banned from the party. Anyone found with these substances on our premises during party hours will be thrown out from the party and banned from all future parties. You know we don't allow it so trying to bring it is only in your worst interest.
Yourself
How could you forget yourself? Haha. I just wanted to tell you that you should come to the party with a good night's sleep and a great attitude. We don't like maggots who come and complain about this tournament being bad, or an ongoing game pissing them off. Leave it at home. Everyone else wants to have a good time and doesn't want to hear your complaints. With only ten hours to get two tournaments done, have lunch, and game in open time, why make everyone else feel bad because you decided to make a mockery out of something? We've never gotten anyone like this, but if you are like this during events where large amounts of fun are floating around, you dont belong here. Period.
