What is a LAN Party?
In case you have never heard of a LAN party, it is basically an event where a bunch of computer/console gamers get together to play games for an entire day over a closed network.
Who is XLAN Gaming?
We are a Chicago IL based LAN party organization. We have had run at least a dozen LANs, helped run even more of our sister LAN (BOC), and several smaller parties. We have been LANing for over 5 years now with big and small events ranging between 50-100 people. Our main goal is to have a 1000 man LAN. We spend lots of time to create the best LAN Party and offer only the best to our guests. Every party gets better and better, either it be dedicated servers, intranet websites, more food, more prizes, or the addition of more games. We are always evolving and changing for the better. Why do I have to come?
It is more than gaming though: with movies, food, tournaments, the meeting of new people, and having a gay (past-tense definition meaning happy or jolly) old time. People also show off their wicked case designs and talk about things that everyone their likes... computers/gaming, Stargate (I will miss you SG-1), women, and well it gets dirtier as it goes along so I will stop there. There may even be cash prizes.
What day is it?
When is the LAN Party?
Again check the Upcoming Events page for times. It is military time get use to it.
How much is the entrance fee?
It will cost 15 dollars to gain entrance into the building. The entrance fee varies at every LAN, but is used to help me cover costs.
What do I have to bring to the LAN?
Read this or get b**** slapped. Seriously I am not kidding. Too many people forget things and do not bother asking me or check the list twice
Nearly all of our events are BYOC or Bring Your Own Computer and Bring Your Own Console events. Make sure you bring a surge protector! A lot of people forget this. Also it would help if people could bring extension cords to the parties (industrial grade please).
Terms of Agreement:
By coming to a LAN party you agree to the Terms of Agreement or Rules, and in such agree to sign a waiver.

I will have copies of the waiver, so if you did not bring it will be fine. Please if you are under 18 have your parents sign it. You will be forced to sign it if you want to partake in this event. We do not want legal issues. ***XLAN has the right to add or amend it's rules at any time, before, during, and after any XLAN event.***

Are there any tournaments?
In most cases there will be tournaments. Either PC or console. Please read the emails or it will be located in the "Upcoming LAN" page.
Are there any consoles?
If you guys want to bring some other consoles like an XBox 360 or the PS3 be my guest, but I am not sure how many TVs/Projectors we can get. Expect at least one projector at the events.

What can I do to get ready for the LAN Party?
Make sure you have all the games installed that YOU want to play before the LAN Party. The best part of LAN parties is the file sharing. Games should not be a problem. We have a file server with all of the games. All you need to do is bring the CD-Keys. ;) I would recommend a couple to buy though, since everyone seems to play these games at every LAN. They are Counter-Strike Source, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, and Day of Defeat: Source. These are all Steam Powered games. Follow the "What Should You Bring to a LAN?" page. And well upgrading your system might be too late so these links will suffice. Make sure Steam is in offline mode! Read the link below and follow the instructions.

You will be happy that you did this, since Steam is a major player at LAN parties. If you have any issues continue reading this. It is long and boring I know. Play a little CS, CSS, HL2DM, or DOD:S right now so you make sure that it is updated. Steam always finds ways to f*** you over at the worse possible times. Who do I talk to?
If you are coming to the party and arrive look for me. I might be outside, in a room, or wandering around the building. I am the loud, annoying, smelly, and fat one walking around with brown hair and no glasses.
What if you are not their or something happens?
Give me a call on my mobile. My mobile is 847-877-6746 Things happened at the last party that I do not want to happen again. Do not worry I am CPR/AED certified and know some Tae Kwon Do. No it was not that bad at the party!!!
What to do when you arrive at the party?
1. Sign In via the laptop that I will have setup. I need your name, email, and alias. This is for newsletters and updates. I never spam anyone, so please give me a valid email address.
2. Pay. You may pay us at the party in cash or can choose to PayPal your payment as well.
3. Fill out the waiver form and poll.
4. Setup your computer.
5. Watch the PowerPoint presentation. This depends on if everyone has little difficulty setting stuff up.
6. Make sure you register on the LAN website.
7. Have fun and play nice!
How will seating be at the party?
A seat of your choice anywhere in our floor plan. These are first come, first serve on the day of the party. Although XLAN Staff may ask you to move for various reasons.
All this talk, but what about the food!
All-access to our variety of snacks and drinks is available. The possibility of lunch and pizza will be served for dinner at no extra cost.

How can we pay you?
You may pay us at the party in cash or can choose to PayPal your payment as well. By signing up for the party, you agree to all of our rules, including to the no tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol, and will bring all of the necessities which are listed on the what to bring page. If you break the no-tolerenace rule, you will be banned from all future parties and removed from the current party with no refund. Please make sure all of your information is accurate and precise.
Your payment to us guarentees the following:
- A seat of your choice anywhere in our floor plan. These are first come, first serve on the day of the party.
- A spot in each of our tournaments. You may choose not to participate in either one on party day, do both, or just skip one. Each one has its own dedicated prizes for the winners.
- Free freebies.
- All-access to our variety of snacks and drinks available. The possibility of lunch and pizza will be served for dinner at no extra cost.
- A chance at the prizes available as part of our tournaments and the raffle which will liquidate all remaining prizes to everyone who attends.
What is provided?
Network cables are provided, as well as files and more. No need to assign IP addresses. If you were wandering about Internet at the event it is based on the location, it will NOT be used for gaming, and only will be allowed for emergency file transfers.
